Column/: A name for a new social network

Naming

Column/ is a new social network for fostering conversations around shared topics of interest. The platform is divided into sensibility-specific rooms, incentivizing high-quality information and respectful interaction. I collaborated with Melissa Dyne on naming the network. We wanted to come up with something that spoke to both the form and the function of the project. When we landed on Column/ we knew it was perfect— it connoted both an architecture as well as a traditional method of discourse, the meanings nesting inside of each other. The structure of the one connotation is a container for the other and, bonus points, the name wasn’t already being used for anything else.
